Hitman V9.1 Release Notes (November 2003)
Since the release of V10.0 we have received a number of calls from users running OpenVMS versions not compatible with this release. Many of these sites are still a long ways away from upgrading to OpenVMS 7.x but have indicated they could use the Hitman V10 enhancements. V9.1 is meant to fill this gap; it incorporates almost all the new features of V10, except for dynamic memory allocation which requires the newer compilers and run-time libraries. V9.1 uses the same data file format as V10 and, unlike V10, it is available for VAX systems. V9.1 should install and running successfully on any version of OpenVMS higher than 5.4; it is compiled under 5.5-1. The release notes for V9.1 are identical to V10 except for the first item - there is no dynamic memory allocation; V9.1 by default will handle up to 2000 processes and its lists are all limited to no more than 256 entries each exactly like V9.0 (protection, special idle times, etc.).
Since the data file format is the same for both versions no conversion is necessary when moving from V9.1 to V10. It should be possible to run a mix of V9.1 and V10 on different nodes, sharing a common data file, if care is taken with the lists (V9.1 will bomb if it tries to read a data file with more than 256 entries in a list).
V9.1 uses the Cohort V4 license key or a Hitman V10 license key. Users with valid support agreements may contact us for their new license key; users without support agreements will be required to pay a nominal upgrade fee.
