Error reading permanent data file

The problem occurs when an update is performed to Hitman and the data files have not been converted. To convert them you should:

1. Check for redirection of Hitman to nondefault permanent data files

    $ show logical perm*

if there are translations for perm_data_prime and perm_data_nonprime you should make a note of them because these are the data files that need to be converted. If there are no translations you can carry on.

2. Run the conversion program (be sure to run it twice, once for prime and once for nonprime)

    $ set default hitman_dat:

    $ run hitman_exe:conversion

    8.0                ! enter your previous version

    perm_data_prime          ! or perm_data_nonprime or the filenames you noted in step 1

3. Mad_dog users should repeat step 2 for the hitman_dat:mad_dog.dat file

4. Verify your parameters by listing and inspecting them

    $ hitman /list /file=both
